The stranger meursault and raymond relationship

ib world literature.: CHARACTER STUDY: MEURSAULT

Read this full essay on Raymond and Meursault. The relationship between Meursault and Raymond displays another representation of a person being egoistic in the novel. Looking at the Character of Meursault in The Stranger by Camus. In The Stranger, the relationship between Salamano and his dog is analogous The dog reminds Meursault of his mother; therefore, the dog is a symbol for that. I don't know how many of you are this far into the book, but I am curious about Meursault's relationship with Raymond, his neighbor. Being that.

The Stranger

At the funeral direct reaction Since Meursault had to go to the funeral, he had to be absent from the work for two days. He justifies himself a lot thought the novel. Meursault also smoked at the funeral. At the police how he talked about it later on Meursault gets arrested in Part 2 because he murdered an Arab.

His Lawyer asks him about his unusual behavior at the funeral and asks him if he felt any grief at the funeral. Meursault is a cold character, however he seems to be a really honest man. He is not panicking, and it seems like he is not that worried about him. He felt faith towards this Lawyer, and Meursault thanked him, showing that he is polite and respects him.

Talking with magistrate Magistrate tells him that God will forgive him if he believes God. Another example I found of Meursault's detachment from emotion is when with "his pal", Raymond. As Raymond tells Meursault about the abuse and his very messed up plans about his wife and everything, Meursault shows no real emotion.

Camus describes everything of the situation tat Raymond has and has very little of Meursault's thoughts in the elongated paragraphed. Meursault's thoughts of the situation can be summed up from that paragraph by, "I said i didn't think anything but that it was interesting Raymond's situation is very messed up and his idea to get his revenge of spitting on her during sex is very dehumanizing and absurd.

Meursault and his Mother vs. Salamano and his Dog

Yet Meursault has no documented feelings opposing this idea. And he "doesn't mind" writing this letter, therefore he is indifferent about participating in this emotional messed up drama. Meursault and his mother have a pretty distant relationship, as Meursault sent his mother to a home and then didn't visit her much because it was inconvenient.

The Stranger - Scene Adaptation

While at his mother's funeral, Meursault then didn't express much grief in the way that society expected him to. Even though both relationships seem to be unusual ones, they also have some fundamental differences. The relationships almost seem to be opposites of each other.

Meursault and his mother seemed to have a pretty normal relationship before the mother's death. They seemed to love each other to some extent, as Meursault still seemed to care about making sure his mother was taken care for even if he couldn't. Salamano and his dog seem to be the opposite.
